Trig Functions on the Unit Circle
sin θ = y cos θ = x tan θ = y ÷ x csc = 1/sin sec = 1/cos cot = 1/tan
For a point at angle θ on a circle of radius 1, the x-coordinate is cos θ and the y-coordinate is sin θ. In a right triangle: sin = opposite/hypotenuse, cos = adjacent/hypotenuse, tan = opposite/adjacent.
| Angle | sin | cos | tan |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0° | 0 | 1 | 0 |
| 30° | 1/2 | √3/2 | √3/3 |
| 45° | √2/2 | √2/2 | 1 |
| 60° | √3/2 | 1/2 | √3 |
| 90° | 1 | 0 | undefined |

Tips
Make sure you know whether your angle is in degrees or radians; most calculator mistakes come from the wrong mode. 180° = π radians. Merged: the unit circle is drawn here, and degree/radian conversion is on the angle converter.
