How a Lease Payment Is Calculated

Depreciation = (net cap cost − residual) ÷ months
Rent charge = (net cap cost + residual) × money factor   APR ≈ money factor × 2,400
Payment = (depreciation + rent charge) × (1 + tax rate)

Net cap cost = negotiated price + fees rolled in − down payment − trade-in.

Tips

Many states tax the monthly payment (as here), but some tax the full price or the down payment; check your state. Mileage limits and excess-mileage charges (often 15–25¢ a mile) aren’t included.
