Highway mpg is usually better than the combined rating, but speed, a loaded car, a roof box, or towing can cut it by 10% to 30%. Gas prices vary by state; use the price where you’ll fill up. For the full cost of driving (wear, tires, depreciation), the IRS mileage rate is a better guide.
