How to Add, Subtract, Multiply and Divide Fractions

Turn mixed numbers into improper fractions first (1 1/2 = 3/2). Then:

Add or subtract: use a common denominator, then add or subtract the tops
Multiply: top × top over bottom × bottom
Divide: flip the second fraction and multiply

Finally, simplify by dividing top and bottom by their greatest common factor, and convert back to a mixed number if you like.
