How to Convert a Decimal to a Fraction

Write the digits after the decimal point over 10, 100, 1000… (one zero per decimal place), then simplify.

0.625 = 625/1000 = 5/8

For a repeating decimal, subtract the non-repeating part and divide by a number made of 9s and 0s:

x = (all digits − digits before the repeat) ÷ (10ᵏ − 10ᵏ⁻ʳ), k = decimal places, r = repeating digits

The "nearest 1/16" line is handy for converting decimal inches to tape-measure fractions. Common ones: 0.125 = 1/8, 0.375 = 3/8, 0.3̅ = 1/3, 0.6̅ = 2/3.
