How to Calculate CAGR

CAGR = (ending ÷ starting)^(1 ÷ years) − 1

CAGR smooths a bumpy path into one steady yearly rate. It matches Excel’s RRI function.

Tips

CAGR ignores money added or withdrawn along the way; for that, use an IRR or money-weighted return. Fractional years work (2.5 years).
